The jobs! All the jobs!

That was the angle we were handed from above regarding our town's sprawling new office complex. The whole WKUV broadcast team was expected to push it at every opportunity. Those were good things, of course. But being told what to report wasn't what I imagined when I entered this industry.

Lights flashed all around me, everyone taking pictures. While I was supposed to focus on the local impact, there was also a lot of national coverage. But they didn't care about our small city, barely a dot on the map. They were here for only one thing: Christopher Brody, the charming and handsome billionaire dreamboat.

Chin cut from marble, beautiful bushy head of blond hair, wore a suit like a boss, and you knew he was in shape under it. That was how the tabloids painted him, and I was forced to agree. The man was incredibly hot, and I had to admit he had invaded my thoughts in times of nighttime loneliness.

Christopher smiled as we weaved his way through the crowd, slapping the shoulders of several people he passed. His charm was magnetic. In short, he was amazing. Someone who wouldn't want a woman like me in a billion years. Most men were intimidated by my curves and attitude, but I could never be anyone but myself.

I had my interview questions ready, farce though it was. The questions all had answers, and we both knew them. It wasn't reporting; it was acting, from a script and everything. It was all for PR, and as a girl who sought the truth, that rankled me. I had to think of it not as my interview but as my employer's. It was a hoop I had to jump through to do my real job. Plus, I'd be jumping it with the most attractive man I'd ever seen, and I wasn't about to pass that up.

Christopher passed through the crowd, lights flashing as he strode to the symbolic red ribbon. The ribbon wasn't preventing everyone from passing, but tradition is tradition. The whole gimmick even came with comically oversized scissors.

"Ladies and Gentlemen," he said, voice easily carrying even without microphones. "Tonight, we come together to christen this new office building, in the name of prosperity and neighborly goodwill. We at Brody Enterprises hope this will be a mutually profitable endeavor for both our company and your beautiful city."

He continued with more empty platitudes. I jotted down a few notes, but there was little actual information. Christopher was playing up the company's interest in our town, acting as though the board of directors might show up at a neighborhood barbeque, ribs in tow. He could have easily been a politician with how he talked. He was too handsome to be one of them, though.

"Tonight, we celebrate. We enjoy ourselves and look..."

Christopher's gaze rolled over the crowd. Then, he suddenly stopped. His eyes were fixed on me. His words trailed off, mouth hanging half-open. My eyes met his, and I really saw him. Not just a pretty face on TV but the man within. And it took my breath away.

The crowd murmured in confusion as Christopher's speech ended abruptly. After a moment, he shook the cobwebs away and cleared his throat.

"Apologies, everyone. Let's just say I had a blond moment."

The crowd laughed at his stupid joke.

"Right," he said, picking up the novelty scissors and unceremoniously cutting the ceremonial ribbon. "Let's get this party started, then. I'm sure you all didn't come here to hear me blab on."

People ran past him to do whatever they did at these events, but Christopher Brody's focus remained locked on one thing: me. His gaze was intimidating, to say the least. He looked very much ready to devour me whole.

I was supposed to follow everyone in. That's where I was supposed to do the interview. But I was frozen in place, wondering just what this man wanted. Whatever it was, I had a good idea who he wanted it from. If I had the opportunity, I'd give it too.

Script or no script, this was going to be one tough interview.
